title_about

The time was the early 1960’s. The place was Southern California. It was the love for the automobile & making it “Kustom” by Chopping, dropping, stripping, shaving, flaming & pinstriping- anything that made it look other than the way it did out of the factory. It was youth and a new culture of American art finding a new face - one of youth, monsters, cartoons, fashion, music and creative freedom.

The artists who have defined Kustom Kulture are too many to list here however no one will argue that Kustom Kulture as we know it today would not exist without the late and legendary Von Dutch & Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, along with Robert Williams, Dean Jeffries & the Barris Brothers.

With Kustom Kulture getting its start here in sunny So Cal and no other state in the country having more love for the automobile, MotorCult felt it fitting that this show took place in the very birthplace of California itself- historic Old Town, San Diego.
See some of the world's finest low-brow artists in the show's “Artist Alley”-hosted by one of the world’s finest custom painters, Pete “Hot Dog” Finlan.
